It’s about the sum of a lot of experiences across 25-plus years of owning and operating an advertising agency. You’re probably like me; you love to build, motivate others and do work that’s rewarding. It’s a great business. It’s also a challenging business.
I’ve made my share of missteps along the way. But, I’ve been humble enough to know what I don’t know and have benefited when I’ve sought the counsel of others. And through those encounters, I’ve not only made valued business colleagues, but many become good friends. That’s the gold for me.
I still own and operate an agency … but everyone needs a second act. For me, it’s about helping others do what they are already doing well, become better owners and operators.
And that leads me to now spending the majority of my time creating intimate working relationships with a handful of other agency owners at any one time. My purpose is simple: I put my collective experiences to work helping others improve their agencies.
It takes on many forms … sometimes it is just one-on-one with the owner. Most often, it’s a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves approach to working with their staff and teams to elevate their game … becoming better business advisors to the agency’s clients and being better advocates for the agency.
Mentoring and helping teams adopt a “business owner mindset” is important to agency growth. Most want the opportunity to help build and be part of something special. Having authorship in that only solidifies their resolve.
Two things I’ve enjoyed and am most proud of over the 25-plus years I’ve owned an agency is mentoring others and being part of a foundation for their future successes. From a junior writer on our team who shared that she always wanted to write fiction who is now a New York Times best-selling author, to those who have gone on to become partners in highly successful agencies of their own, and those who now serve in the senior leadership of agencies doing very special work; helping others grow and prosper is the true joy.
And that’s what Agency Growth Accelerators is about: it’s a passion for this business and for being involved with others who want to achieve more tomorrow than they did today.
I’d enjoy hearing your story. Let’s connect and I’ll listen. Perhaps we’ll find a reason and need to work together.
